![]() Since the 1960s, Shakespeare Composite Structures has pioneered fiberglass reinforced composite pole technologies with design innovations and patented techniques that have revolutionized the entire lighting standard industry. Our composite poles easily withstand the harshest climates, supporting heavy loads in high sustained winds, all with virtually no maintenance. Over the years, our engineers and designers have developed an extensive array of styles and features that specifically address commercial, architectural, and roadway applications - from a simple yard light to a massive 70-footer capable of withstanding literally hurricane-force winds. Shakespeare Composite Structures makes every effort to tailor poles to customers' specific needs, including location of handholes, mounting brackets, colors, textures, finishes, arms, tenons, and accommodation of a variety of luminaires and attachments. If you have a special need, especially if you're trying to match a composite pole from years past, just call. |
The Shakespeare Composite Structures story... |

Our first innovation in the
light pole business was to originate the composite light pole. Building logically on the fiberglass reinforced composites
technologies developed for other products, Shakespeare Composite Structures scaled its
manufacturing processes to create a strong light pole that has revolutionized
the lighting standard industry. Over the years, our continued innovation has developed proprietary and custom formulated resins, coatings, and patented
assembly techniques (for example, on Breakaway poles), to achieve the unmatched
Shakespeare Composite Structures quality and durability. Round Tapered Poles The Round Tapered Tuff-Poles start with our specially engineered filament winding process, utilizing equipment built and engineered in house. Fiberglass filaments which are impregnated with pigmented resin are spirally wound onto a rotating, heated mandrel. The computer-controlled precision winding is applied under continuous, uniform tension, and helically at low angles for axial strength. Additional circular windings provide compression strength. The machines' winding processes are linked to a sophisticated computer driven process control systems, for precision and repeatability - a Shakespeare Composite Structures innovation. The result is a one-piece, composite pole with a uniform surface along its entire length and a naturally textured finish showing off the shape of the strands of fiberglass which created it. The poles' thermosetting polyester resin contains a minimum of 65 percent fiberglass - maximum 35 percent resin - by weight. Our Tuff-Pole technologies let us engineer resin formulations that maximize the properties demanded by the poles' specific application. |

Square Composite Tuff-Poles · Tapered Square Composite Poles Shakespeare Composite Structures 4"x4" and 5"x5" Straight Square Tuff-Poles are manufactured in one piece by pulling the shape through special heated dies. Their strength derives from fiberglass strands which traverse the poles - and they are exceptionally strong. Square Tuff-Poles are available in a range of strength ratings to suit your needs. ![]() For
streetscapes, nothing looks as good as our Decorative composite and
Polymer Concrete Base Decorative Composite poles. Decorative Tuff-Poles
are cast in the same highly engineered resins as our round and square
poles. The Historical
Series features classical looks from the past, executed in low-maintenance, durable composites. See Decorative Tuff-Poles. Our Polymer Concrete Series poles provide the benefits of composite shafts plus an extremely durable, abrasion-resistant, polymer concrete base. They're all one-piece construction, direct burial style, light weight, easily transported, and inexpensive. See the catalog: Polymer Concrete Series Tuff-Poles (PDF). |

They dot the landscape, holding up the electrical and communications lines that keep us all going. To do what they do, utility poles don't have to look good - but if there's one in your back yard, it would be nice if it looked like it originated on this planet. Shakespeare Composite Structures solves that problem, as well as many others, with great looking Transmission and Distribution Tuff-Poles and Lewtex® composite crossarms: products engineered for durability and to look good doing their job. See T&D Poles. |

good looks Round, square, utility, or Decorative, from the beginning of the manufacturing process, color pigments and UV inhibitors are formulated into the resin itself, so color and longevity go all the way through. An array of standard, special, and premium colors is available, including architectural colors.

| Shakespeare's Composite Burial Foot offers the convenience and economy of direct burial style poles for Anchor Base poles up to 30 feet mounting heights, and all Decorative Poles. | |
All of our
composite
poles are finished with a proprietary, polyurethane coating that is
pigmented throughout. Our Tuff-Poles
incorporate UV-resistance into resin and coatings for maximum
life in adverse weather conditions. The Veil finish on our SportsLighting
poles (PDF) is unsurpassed. |

Designed to reduce
injuries in the event of vehicular impact, Breakaway
poles are specially joined so they'll break off and fly over a
vehicle that strikes them, minimizing danger to the vehicle's occupants.
They are required in certain applications near roadways.
Shakespeare
Composite Structures made the first
Breakaway poles, and holds patents on joining techniques with which the poles are assembled. |
